Tarcísio Almeida is an independent curator, researcher and professor. He works between contemporary artistic practices, curatorial dialogues and processes of collective learning, with one question at the centre: how do we, people inscribed in the regimes of violence articulated by Blackness, experiment with modes of liberation and freedom within language?

The question was formulated in the first meetings of the Práticas Desobedientes research groups, while he was a visiting professor at UFRB, and has organised both his research and his practice ever since. It runs through the thesis Mystery Tongues: cognitive freedom, the right to form and fugitive languages, at the Centre for Contemporary Culture Studies (UFMT), supervised by Maristela Carneiro. Before it, a master's in clinical psychology at the Centre for Subjectivity Studies (PUC-SP), with Peter Pál Pelbart.

His accompaniment work — with artists, groups, projects and institutions — departs from an implicated listening: less a tool of mediation than an arrangement of presence that sustains and swerves. Listening not to cure, but to hold the thickness of what refuses reconciliation. In processes of creation, that means sustaining the gesture, the desire, the swerve, rather than rushing the product.

He is the founder and artistic director of Instituto Práticas Desobedientes and coordinates the Elixir Fund, in partnership with the Áfricas nas Artes project.
